Carney Island Perimeter & Beach Loops
Experience this 3.4-mile stacked loop trail situated on the beautiful shores of Lake Weir in Ocklawaha, Florida. Generally considered an easy route, it takes most hikers roughly 1.5 hours to complete. The trail is primarily a well-groomed service road, making it perfect for families, walking, and running.
The trail system links three distinct routes: the Fern Gully Loop, the Quail Loop, the Fox Trot Loop, and the less known about Boy Scout Trail. Hikers will travel through ancient oak hammocks, pine plantations, and classic Florida bayheads. If you walk out to the farthest tip of the peninsula (Lemon Point), you will be rewarded with stunning, panoramic views of the crystal-clear waters of Lake Weir.
This is a heavily protected conservation area, so wildlife sightings are common. Keep your eyes peeled for resident deer, wild turkeys, gopher tortoises, and bald eagles.
